]]>Our goal has been to use zero plastic in our packaging for some time, so we are proud to announce all Sticky Toffee products are being phased to sustainable packaging and we will be plastic free by the end of 2021. Why the end of the year? Well, we have some stock which is already in plastic packaging but as this sells out, any new stock will come in the plastic free packaging. We don’t want to create more unnecessary waste and feel it’s better to sell the products we have and phase out the plastic this way.
We’ve worked hard to source plastic free packaging which is both eco-friendly and protects your order, offering you a more sustainable way to shop for home textiles which are ethically made and kind to the planet.
So what have we used instead of plastic? Good question, we now pack all our tea towels in a protective card box which can be recycled after use.
Creating a well rounded, ethical business is integral to our ethos. It’s not simply a nice to have, it’s the way our business operates at every level from the manufacturing of our home textiles to how they arrive at your home.
Here's what we do to ensure our products are produced in the most fair, safe and legal way.

Due to the nature of tea towels and their usage, we often find ourselves washing them countless times, so it’s important that we look after them so that they look and feel fresher for longer.
All of our tea towels are all made of 100% cotton, which is a fabric known for its absorbent and durable qualities. Some of our tea towels use a terry-cloth weave, with fabric loops which in turn allow for even more absorbency.
Washing Tips
Our tea towels are designed to withstand plenty of washing. To achieve maximum efficiency, we suggest that before use you soak your new tea towels in warm water, or wash them first, to remove any excess oil from the manufacturing process and to help achieve maximum absorbency.
Avoid using fabric conditioner which often leaves a coating on the fabric, which in turn can become water-resistant over time. Instead, simply use a standard detergent when washing your tea towels to retain their absorbent qualities.
Finally, avoid using a tumble dryer when drying your tea towels as these can sometimes deteriorate fabric quicker over time - just hang them out to dry naturally for extra longevity.
]]>We’re looking at the most popular kitchen trends of the year for whatever function your kitchen serves you. Whatever your budget, these trends serve as inspiration for you to rethink what small changes you can make to update your kitchen to fit with your lifestyle for 2020.
1. Go Bold with Colour
The painted kitchen has been a popular trend for years, wherein previous years many have opted for neutral cabinetry for a more traditional finish. This year, spice up your kitchen with pops of bold colours. Try painting your kitchen island in a bold blue, like Pantone’s colour of the year Classic Blue, similar to how Plain English have in their kitchen below. It’ll offer your kitchen a breath of fresh air, and paired with colourful accessories, such as our popular cotton striped tea towels, your kitchen will be the real heart of your home this year. Our Striped Cotton Drill Tea Towels and Thick Cotton Drill Mini Check Striped Tea Towels both in Blue and Teal happen to be the perfect match.
2. Dark Kitchen Themes
It can be a scary thought to focus your colour theme around dark colours, but don’t be afraid to try something new. Rather than working with contrasting colours, more designers are layering dark-on-dark to create a sophisticated and dramatic new look, like Neptune have done so below. Our black and white Striped Cotton Drill Tea Towels compliment monochrome and dark kitchen themes.
3. Hide the Clutter
Long gone are the days of losing our herbs and spices to the depths of a deep drawer, only to be discovered years later. Be clever with storage and opt for fold-out larder cabinets with multiple layers of shelving, like Neptune’s Limehouse Larder Cabinet as pictured below. Clutter should no longer be seen, especially when there are now options to disguise and re-order everything. A pared-back kitchen needs simple accessories to complement its design, and our Basket Weave Striped Cotton Tea Towels in grey do just the job. Check out our blog on How to De-Clutter Kitchen if you need a little help getting your kitchen organised too!
4. Marble Kitchen Trend
Carrera marble has been a popular favourite for kitchen counters as it’s light colour and attractive pattern adds texture and lightness to any design. It’s here to stay in 2020, complimenting almost any painted kitchen design. Pair with our Cornwall Chic Striped Tea Towels in blue for a light, fresh and summery kitchen this year.
5. Going Green
In 2020 it’s not enough to use sustainable materials in your kitchen, although this is a certain trend on the rise. You’ll see more kitchens with cabinetry painted in various shades of green and integrating botanicals as part of their design. If painting isn’t an option, simply try bringing more plants inside to add colour, depth and texture. Try adding your own pop of green with our Woven Textured Check Tea Towels.

]]>Get Creative In The Kitchen
Easier On Your Purse
We accumulate ‘stuff’ through life but it’s time to think about how much of it you actually use on a regular basis and how much you are just keeping out of habit. Clearing out your kitchen can also save you money as you’ll have a good idea of what’s in your kitchen, what you use and help you avoid spending money on things you already own. You may even make a little money on items you sell in your clear out.
Follow our simple tips and your kitchen will be clutter-free and organised in no time at all!
TIME TIP!
Before we get started here’s a top tip! If you have a large space, a lot to clear or feel overwhelmed by the task in hand, set 30-minute timers and try to tackle it in smaller chunks of time or do one area from the list each day. By the end of the month, you’ll have a refreshed and organised kitchen!
1. Add baskets to your cupboards
Stack items in baskets which fit your cupboards as these will help you organise items into relevant groups eg. Cleaning, home textiles, spices etc. Have a look around at which style and size are suitable for you. Baskets are lovely for cupboards where you can see the items, these Ikea plastic tubs are ideal as they come in several sizes that fit well in cupboards, have a recessed edge and are wipe clean. Homesense is a great place to look for kitchen storage solutions too!
2. Labels your organisers
If the thought of labelling your shelves, baskets or jars sounds appealing, buy a Dymo handheld label maker. They cheap to purchase and last a long time. Just don’t blame us when your whole house becomes label obsessed!
3. Fold your Tea Towels
Organise your tea towels and get rid or donate any that are very worn or you no longer use. Why not start afresh with a new set that matches and fold the spares neatly in a small basket under your sink so they’re ready to use and don’t take up much room. You’re sure to find a sale you love in our Tea Towel collection!
4. Check use-by dates
Go through your tins, jars and freezer for items that have expired and get rid of them. You will probably find that they’re products you don’t really use, hence they have gone out of date before you’ve had the chance to use them.
5. Donate any items you no longer use
Go through each cupboard and have a few boxes set up for the food bank and charity shop. Keep them there for a week and each time you find something you no longer need pop them in here ready to go to a new home.
6. Pick up some reusable containers
Fill them will your pantry items, flour, sugar etc. By doing this, it’s unlikely that you will end up buying duplicates of products. Here you will find a great selection of Ikea glass jars which you can label and keep your kitchen looking organised and tidy, as well as being really practical. By using glass storage jars you can also help reduce your waste by taking them to your local refill shop!
7. Buy in bulk
We say this with caution though as the idea of this exercise is to de-clutter. If you have space in a garage, storeroom or utility room, but large bottles or tubs of cleaning and household items and then decant them into smaller containers to keep to hand in your kitchen. This is more economical and better for the planet! Try it with washing liquid and hand soap as your first go and see how you get on. You can buy great looking reusable pump glass bottles which will look nice in your kitchen and be practical, see Clean Natured.
8. De-clutter your recipe books
Go through your recipe books and donate any you no longer use.
9. Go through your utensils and decide what you need and use
Do you not use something because it doesn’t work well? Replace it if so. If you don’t then donate it. We’ve all needed up with extra utensils which we think are a great invention but they really just complicate a process which didn’t need complicating! Once you have done this, organise the drawer with a divider or simply stack them neatly.
10. Organise your fridge
Check for out of date items, clean the shelves and drawers then put the items back that you are keeping. Organise them by type and but the longer-dated items at the back.
11. Tidy up your spices
Go through your spices, put them in plastic tubs so you can easily pull them out of cupboards and find the one you want or get a spice rack. This way you will actually use them and be able to find them easily. It also helps contain and spice spills!
12. Tupperware time
Pair your Tupperware tubs and lids. Any that aren’t a pair, donate! Once you have your sets, organise the tubs by size and stack the lids to save space.
13. Kitchen gadgets
We have all bought a kitchen gadget that we thought we would use all the time, only to find it sits at the back of the cupboard after the first week. Go through them and get touch with what you use and what actually makes your life easier. Any items that you no longer wish to keep, either sell them on Facebook or eBay or donate them to a charity or local organisation who could use them.
14. Move anything that doesn't belong there
Most people end up with a ‘stuff’ drawers full of cables, old keys, batteries etc. Go through it and organise it with dividers, small tubs or cable tidies. Anything that doesn’t belong there, move it!
We hope these wins have been super useful and inspired you to get organised. Share your kitchen de-clutter photos on Instagram and tag us @stickytoffeestore.
If you want to refresh your kitchen, even more, our range of high-quality Tea Towels are practical and come in a range of stylish colours and designs to fit your kitchen perfectly.

We’ve put together three brunch recipes which you can serve and are guaranteed party pleasers.
]]>The great thing about many brunch recipes is that they are relatively easy to make and you can get creative with your ingredients, so why not get your friends round this month for brunch and show off your laid back cooking skills. We’ve put together three brunch recipes which you can serve and are guaranteed party pleasers.
Brunch should be relaxed and casual so style your table this way too. Try adding our new Cornwall Chic Gingham or Stripe Tea Towels to the table under the toppings bowels, they’ll add a stylish colour pop to your table and will be handy to mop up any kitchen spills. Add fresh flowers to the centre of the table or small sprigs of eucalyptus to each table setting.
Avocado on toast
Avocado on toast is perfect for serving at brunch as it’s refreshing, healthy and can be topped with a variety of tasty ingredients. Avocado is often hailed as a superfood as it is rich in Vitamin C, E, K and B6 as well as Omega-3 fatty acids which are good for your skin.
Start with your bread base, sourdough and rye work brilliantly as they are extra crisp and also good for your gut. Next, get your ripe avocado and mash it in a bowl with a fork. Add a sprinkle of salt and cracked black pepper this is your simple mashed avocado.
Now for the toppings, choose from any of the following and scatter them on top:
Fluffy American Pancakes
The American classic is now a popular choice in the UK, not as healthy as avocado on toast they’re best as a special treat or perfect if there are lots of people as you can make them in batches and keep them warm in the oven. Our favourite recipe is this one on BBC Good Food. Try substituting half the flour for buckwheat flour as a variation on the classic recipe, if you are dairy-free you can use a dairy-free spread and a milk alternative, almond, soya and oat all work well. You can even try different sugars such as coconut sugar.
Once you have you pancake stack add your toppings, here are some ideas:
Home-made granola
Granola can be quite high in sugar so try making your own, it’s simple and you can make it in large batches and store it in Kilner jars for up to a month. Set up a granola buffet for your guests with bowls of toppings for them to add. Start with yoghurt, coconut yoghurt is a great alternative and adds a fresh, creamy flavour. Top with granola and then finish with a fruit compote or sliced banana.
Try this granola recipe which is delicious and good for you:
2 tbsp vegetable oil
125ml maple syrup
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla extract
300g rolled oats
50g sunflower seeds
4 tbsp sesame seeds
50g pumpkin seeds
100g flaked almonds
100g dried berries (find them in the baking aisle)
50g coconut flakes or desiccated coconut
Now you have your brunch recipes sorted, it's time to organise a weekend brunch with your friends! Tag us on Instagram in your brunch photos @stickytoffeestore.

Are they open about the way in which their products are made? Do they talk about their manufacturing process and how they treat their workers? A good place to start with this is on their ‘About Us’ page on their website or check their social media. Look for companies who are open, transparent and treat their workers well. Companies demonstrate ethical practices in many ways, from essential things like paying a fair wage, to providing healthcare, family support and childcare and providing communities with renewable electricity sources. Be curious about companies ethics and ask questions. Drop them an email, call them or DM them on social media!
Can you read what other customers think of the brand? These can be a good indicator of how other people view the brand, not just how they want to be viewed. Many people are very honest when submitting a review and demonstrate what they like (or dislike) about the brand. If a company has plenty of 5-star reviews and its customers are impressed by the quality and business ethics, this is a great sign!
We all know that one way to shop ethically and sustainably is to simply buy less. In the past, consumers have become overloaded with items in their home, however, in recent years many shoppers are consciously buying better quality and less. It’s also ok to buy online if you are trying to shop ethically; it gives you an opportunity to research a product and company and subsequently make a more informed and thoughtful purchase.
If you can buy a set of 3 tea towels for £5, it’s unlikely they are being made with ethical practices in mind, both from an environmental aspect or in their business ethics. On the flip side, don’t always assume that because an item carries a high price point that it is ethically made. This is where quickly researching a company pays off.
These are essentially made from plastic thread and can shed microfibres into waterways during production. Polyester, Nylon and other made-made fabrics are often harsh on the environment to make. Try to buy natural fabrics, such as cotton or bamboo, which are not only less toxic, they often perform much better and feel nicer for home textile products.
Read the labels of products or if you are shopping online, read the product description and try to find out if the product is Organic, OEKO-TEX® 100 or if it’s leather look for vegetable tanned products. OEKO-TEX® 100 certifications encourage businesses to act responsibly through making more sustainable purchasing decisions, offering ethical working conditions and ensuring products are free from harmful substances. All textiles holding the OEKO-TEX® 100 certifications have been tested for harmful substances, from yarn to the finished product.
We would love to hear your tips for shopping ethically, comment below or send us a message. Share this blog with your friends so we can all be better equipped and informed on how to make better purchasing decisions!

]]>JVS Export are leading manufacturers and suppliers of home textiles, since 1931. Don't be put off though - unlike most larger scale manufacturers, we do things a little differently at JVS Export. To start with, all our factories run off 100% renewable energy. Sounds good, doesn't it?
Our brand Sticky Toffee began life in the Spring of 2018. With so many years experience behind us in manufacturing kitchen textiles for large scale retailers, we wanted to show you, the consumers - our customers - just how important we regard the quality and detail that goes into producing products which are truly designed to stand the test of time. This is when our own brand Sticky Toffee was born.
We wanted to design and make products that our customers would be proud to use in their homes, which is why we make our own products in our own factories where we have complete control over the quality, design and production.
We firmly believe that in this day and age, we should all be giving back. It's an age where we must 'do our bit' to help preserve our planet as well as treating each other with the respect and values we deserve.
Our factories are in the Tamil Nadu region of India, where we take great care in making sure our employees are well looked after; something taken for granted here. There is purified drinking water freely available, access to on-site medical care and there are routine check-ups for both employees and their families.
Our secondary focus is our environmental responsibility. We own and operate 'forests' of windmills, providing energy to the local electric cooperative which means that our factories run entirely on sustainable wind energy.
We also harvest rain water where we have estimated to save 100,000 gallons of water per year, reducing the strain on local ground water resources in Southern India.
And finally, later in 2019 we will only be using 100% recycled and biodegradable material in all of our packaging: shipping cartons, biodegradable poly-bags, bellybands and hang tags.
We really do care about the impact we have on our people and our environment, and we are constantly striving to be the best we can be with this being at the forefront of our considerations.
Now you know a bit about us and our values, we will continue to update you when we launch new products or any news we think might interest you.
